The twelve-speed MAN TipMatic® semi-automatic gearbox creates a perfect synthesis of comfort and efficiency. It can be operated effortlessly, either fully automatically or manually using a touch-action lever on the steering wheel. The clutch pedal has been removed and no gear stick is required. The driver is not distracted and can fully concentrate on the road. The kick-down function guarantees optimum ride dynamics. For the sake of simplicity, MAN TipMatic® Fleet is only available in automatic mode. MAN TipMatic® gearboxes are available as direct drive and overdrive versions, and are extremely efficient as they reduce fuel consumption, prevent damage to the powertrain and have a payload that is approximately 70 kg higher than comparable gearboxes. The integrated MAN EasyStart starting aid also makes things easier for the driver.
The advantages of the MAN TipMatic®
The advantages of the MAN TipMatic® are particularly clear to see in the lightweight vehicle segment when these trucks are used frequently in cities and areas close to cities. The main benefit here is that drivers no longer have to shift gears.
The "Fleet" software version prevents the gearbox from being operated incorrectly. The gear shifting strategy and gear shifting function of the fully automatic MAN TipMatic® gear shift system are stored in the system's control unit.
Shifting gears at exactly the right moment Driving as economically as possible depends on shifting gears at exactly the right moment. This is most easily and comfortably done using MAN TipMatic®, which enables either fully automatic or manual operation using the touch-action lever.
If the optional EVB engine brake is activated, the automatic gearbox shifts independently to the optimal gear to provide full braking power. This greatly relieves the strain on drivers involved in distribution traffic who are required to change gear more frequently. Drivers can fully concentrate on traffic. A clear safety plus. In addition, the MAN TipMatic® makes vehicle operation more economical by reducing fuel consumption and preventing damage to the drive train.
Simply accelerate, steer and brake – when loading, the driver activates the halt brake located in the control box in the nearside armrest, and engages neutral gear via a push-button. Engaging neutral activates the body hydraulics. Compared to automatic gearboxes, the advantages of this new series solution are its reduced fuel consumption and lower component costs.
More comfort and safety in off-road use – MAN TipMatic® with cross-country drive
The rotary control for the automatic MAN TipMatic® gear shift system in the TGX, the TGS and the TGM now features a new symbol. Dx stands for the cross-country drive mode, specially tailored for driving on construction sites. MAN is introducing a version of TipMatic for all-wheel drive vehicles with drive formulae 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8, which will make it possible to drive comfortably in automatic mode, even on off-road routes.
When driving on hard road surfaces using position D of the MAN TipMatic® lever, the driver benefits from the advantages of automatic gear selection. In demanding off-road situations, the driver switches to the Dx position. Shifting is avoided as much as possible to guarantee power on sand, in mud or on hills. If a gear change is required, however, the gearbox carries this out quickly based on its calculation of the driving resistance. The gearbox selects the most practical gear for starting, one with high engine torque, and maintains this gear for as long as possible.
