Outstanding partners: MAN's ten best suppliers

MAN Nutzfahrzeuge confers "Trucknology Supplier Award 2008"

At the "Trucknology Supplier Award" ceremony in Munich MAN Nutzfahrzeuge honoured ten suppliers for their outstanding performance. Altogether some 1,200 suppliers help to make the trucks and buses from MAN extremely efficient in their transport tasks.

Sabine Drzisga, Director Controlling, Purchasing & Legal at MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, handed over the awards together with Purchasing Manager Björn Carlsson. As Sabine Drzisga emphasised, "We perceive our suppliers as long-term partners who, with their services and product components, contribute substantially to the quality and reliability of the buses and trucks built by MAN Nutzfahrzeuge. In view of the current challenges in a difficult economic situation in particular it is vitally important for MAN to cooperate with innovative and flexible suppliers." With the "Trucknology Supplier Award" MAN distinguishes suppliers who have an outstanding performance record in this respect. "This forms the basis for a long-term, successful partnership and is very important for the future development of our company and our vehicles," she continued.

The following companies have been selected as Trucknology Suppliers 2008:

  • DS AUTOMOTION GmbH, Linz, Austria
  • MITSUBISHI Electric Europe BV, Schiphol-Rijk, Netherlands
  • Levi Peterson Industri AB, Anderstorp, Sweden

As an expert for transport efficiency MAN works constantly to improve its trucks and buses in order to reduce the total costs of operation for its customers. Among the winners of the "Trucknology Supplier Award" are two companies that illustrate this: their product innovations have made MAN buses and trucks more reliable and improved their fuel economy and environment friendliness:

MEKRA Lang GmbH & Co. KG developed a new, lighter mirror system with optimised aerodynamics for the Trucknology range TGS /TGX. The new mirrors are more than one kilogram each lighter than their predecessors. At the same time the mirrors help to advance the aerodynamics of the MAN TGS / TGX and therefore to cut the fuel consumption. Other development objectives achieved were a major reduction in wind noise and a 60 per cent decrease in the soiling of side windows and mirror glasses.

The supplier MITSUBISHI Electric Europe BV developed the starter motors for the MAN D20, D26 and D08 diesel engines. These enhanced starter motors are installed in MAN and Neoplan buses and in the TGL, TGM, TGS and TGX trucks, and contribute to the high reliability of these commercial vehicles.
