Successful start to the year for MAN CLA

Sales at MAN CLA have made a good start to 2010. Delivery agreements already signed total 1,200 units, most of which will go to Indonesia, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, South Africa and Morocco.

The vehicles in MAN's CLA range are designed for the tough, challenging operating conditions to be found in various Asian and African markets. In southern Africa, these robust MAN trucks have been successfully tested since the beginning of 2008. Now, another 300 MAN CLA trucks are being consigned to customers in South Africa. A further 350 three-axle MAN CLA 26.280 trucks are destined for Indonesia where they will be put into operation as dump trucks in the coal mining industry. There they will have to cope reliably with surfaces that are often extremely difficult to drive on, including unpaved roads with challenging inclines and steep downhill slopes. These MAN CLA trucks are equipped with 6.9-litre 6-cylinder in-line engines that comply with the Euro 3 emission standards. The engines output 280 hp at 2,400 rpm and develop a torque of 1,100 Nm at 1,300 – 1,700 rpm. From the range of cabs available, the customer chose the so-called sleeper cab, which is longer and more spacious.

An initial batch of 40 CLA models has arrived in Vietnam (also in the 6x4 version with 280-hp engine). By the end of 2010 there will be 420 CLA's operating in this country, some as chassis-cabs and others as dump trucks. One of the special variants of the 6x4 derivative is the concrete mixer, which will find satisfied customers in Vietnam and neighbouring regions. In addition, the two-axle version of the MAN CLA with a 280-hp engine will go into operation there as a semi-trailer truck tractor.

The MAN CLA 4x2 chassis destined for Morocco has a slightly less powerful engine. These vehicles are equipped with the same 6-cylinder engine, but with a 220-hp output and are Euro 2 compliant. In Morocco, the 80 MAN CLA vehicles will be also be used as 4x2 semi-trailer truck tractors and 6x4 rigid tippers.

The two and three-axle MAN CLA versions range from 15 to 26 tonnes gross vehicle weight. The CLA is based on tried and trusted German truck engineering from MAN Nutzfahrzeuge, renowned for its load-carrying capability, reliability, functionality and economy in arduous daily operations. With its rugged chassis, economical engines and 20 or 22.5-inch tyres specially designed for poor surfaces, MAN is aiming the CLA range at the markets of various countries in Asia and Africa. The driver's cabs in day and sleeper cab versions come from the proven LE2000 range, as do the D08 engines and the 6S-850 and 9S-1110 ZF gearboxes. The vehicles are equipped with the established MAN AP axles, while Meritor hypoid axles are available for some of the models in the long-haul version. MAN CLA trucks are produced in one of India's most modern commercial vehicle plants. The joint-venture company, MAN FORCE TRUCKS Private Limited, is based in Pithampur and manufactures all its vehicles according to stringent German quality standards.
