At the end of September 2013 MAN delivered the first of a total of 120 MAN TGS WW tipper semitrailers to the major construction company Chagoury Group. The three-axle trucks deliver 400 bhp and have a gross vehicle weight of 40 tones. They will be used in construction of a man-made island off the coast of Nigeria.
The company decided to award the order to MAN primarily because of the trucks' rugged design and economical fuel consumption. The trucks will operate in particularly challenging conditions, transporting filler material to gain back the country's Atlantic coastline in the south. Maintenance and servicing of the fleet of MAN construction vehicles will be in the hands of the MAN regional importer SCOA Nigeria Plc. with headquarters in Lagos. The EKO Atlantic project is part of a land reclamation scheme designed to protect the peninsula of Victoria Island from coastal erosion. A man-made island 9km² in area is being built in the Atlantic directly off the coast of Lagos. In future it will become home to the financial, commercial and tourist center of Nigeria with 250.000 residents offering about 50.000 jobs.
