The fire service and emergency services are called out up to 1000 times a day on average in large cities to extinguish fires, prevent environmental disasters or rescue injured people. As every minute counts when you are saving lives, the rescue team needs to be able to rely on their vehicle.
Fast, robust and reliable – MAN fire service and emergency services vehicles already have a lot of the equipment they need on board when they leave the factory to extinguish, rescue, protect and salvage. Just like the fire-fighters who enter burning buildings every day to save others, MAN fire service and emergency services vehicles are always on hand when things heat up.
In an emergency, every available fire service and emergency services vehicle needs to be functioning perfectly. The safety-relevant components play a particularly important role as people’s lives depend on them.
MAN fire service and emergency services vehicles are among the most reliable on the market: since 2012, the safety-relevant components in our vehicles have demonstrated a particularly low fault ratio in the TÜV report. The vehicles are also fitted with MAN engines for municipal deployment, which ensure constant vehicle operation, even during longer rescue scenarios.
An emergency call is made to fire and rescue services around the world on average every 30 seconds. To comply with the statutory rescue time of 10 minutes, vehicles need to arrive at the scene as quickly as possible.
On the scene in no time: our rescue vehicles are equipped with a quick-start system and the MAN TipMatic® EMERGENCY gear-shift program, which reduces shifting times and improves acceleration. The OFFROAD gear-shift program ensures you arrive at your destination quickly and easily, even on uneven terrain. The DM, RM gear-shift program enables precise manoeuvring.
Emergencies can happen anywhere at any time. This means that emergency vehicles need to be able to travel across open terrain and on hard-to-access inner city roads.
Our selectable front-wheel drive and MAN HydroDrive® with an electronically controlled transfer case and lock management, as well as all safety systems (e.g. ESP), ensure that you arrive at your destination quickly and easily on any road surface or terrain. And none of this requires you to make any compromises when it comes to payload, nor does it increase your fuel consumption.
When tackling fires and natural disasters, protective gear and the right rescue equipment need to be transported to the scene as well as the emergency responders.
For missions that require maximum manpower, we fit your fire engine or rescue vehicle with a MAN crew or unit cab ex works. These cabs offer space for 6 (optionally 7) or 9 crew members including equipment. Both solutions are also available as an extended version with extra storage for breathing apparatus.
No two emergencies are the same and different body and conversion solutions are required for each application area. It needs to be possible to implement these conversions swiftly, so the vehicles are available quickly.
Whether it is a fire engine, an equipment trailer or a turntable ladder – MAN fire service and emergency services vehicles are supplied with the right equipment to avoid time-consuming conversions. Powerful PTOs supply you with the required power for pumps, winches and alternators ex works. Radio transmission equipment is also on board.
A fire service or emergency services vehicle has between 1000 and 5000 litres of extinguishing agent on board. Then add nine emergency responders that can weigh up to 1000 kg with their full equipment, as well as the rest of the emergency apparatus. Fire engine chassis need to be designed so that they can transport as high a payload as possible.
We consistently invest in light-weight construction to make sure our vehicles can transport the maximum amount of extinguishing agent and equipment. Thanks to the combination of reduced-weight chassis, engines and drives, MAN trucks are among the lightest on the market.
