MAN TICKS BOXES FOR BUTT

Derbyshire own account operator goes for MAN again

The C Butt fleet has extended its number of MAN trucks in the company’s bold new livery, with the the addition of six new TGX 26.440 XL units.

The vehicles, all with MAN’s three-year warranty and supported locally by MAN Northampton, are the second batch of MANs purchased by the Northampton based haulier, replacing a variety of “spot hire” vehicles that had been used extensively in the Group’s operations.

Clive Hodgkinson, managing director at C Butt Ltd., said the choice of the MAN tractors was based on a blend of contributing factors. He commented, “For us, it’s about total cost of operation and the driver experience. MAN’s servicing, PMI and MOT costs are very competitive in comparison with other makes of vehicles, the mpg is where we need it to be and the XL cab delivers very good driver comfort and safety.

“The entrance/exit to the cab ideal for our regional operations. In all these respects, negotiations with the MAN team were very ‘down to earth’, with both parties confident that the costs of operating the vehicles were fully understood, realistic and achievable. The icing on top for us was the fact that the cab projects the right image for the company. We spend a couple of thousand per cab on our new livery wrap and the MAN TGX enhances it perfectly.”

The new vehicles will be predominantly utilised on the company’s well-established regional collections/deliveries for a number well-known household name companies, involving regional mileage of around 250 miles per shift. C Butt Ltd restricts the trucks to 52 mph with a cut-off at three minutes. Fuel is monitored continuously by systems deployed across the whole of the company’s operations.
